Michael S. Ruma, MD, MPH FACOG

As a board-certified maternal-fetal medicine specialist, my primary interest is the care of patients with a high-risk pregnancy. Different issues, such as medical, surgical, or obstetrical problems, pose challenges to women and I enjoy working with them to achieve optimal care during their pregnancy. I joined Perinatal Associates of New Mexico in 2008 after completing my fellowship training Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A native of Omaha, Nebraska I received my M.D. from Creighton University school of Medicine and stayed at Creighton to complete my residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. During fellowship training in Maternal-‐Fetal Medicine, I received training in the management of high-risk pregnancies and prenatal diagnosis, as well as chorionic villus sampling and intrauterine fetal transfusion. I also received a Master of Public Health degree in Health Policy and Administration from the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina.

Education is an important aspect of medicine and I enjoy working with local medical students interested in obstetrics. Research in our field is constantly changing. In addition to having presented at scientific meetings and authored peer-‐reviewed articles on red cell alloimmunization and the effects of periodontal disease on pregnancy, I routinely attend national conferences in order to provide the most current, advanced care for my patients.

Outside of work, I love to exercise, hike the trails of our beautiful state of New Mexico, and spend time with my wife. During the winter, I have fun as a volunteer ski instructor for the Adaptive Ski Program, providing ski lessons for adults and children with a wide array of disabilities. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further improve your care at Perinatal Associates of New Mexico.

I am looking forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
Michael S. Ruma, M.D.M.P.H.
